Columbia, SC - Richland School District One recently gave special recognition to I. D. Newman Church for exemplary contributions and support of the afterschool program and related activities at W. J. Keenan High School. The church was given the coveted "Great Friend to Afterschool" award at a special celebration program at the University of South Carolina.

The church was recognized for it’s varied support of students at nearby Keenan High School. Members have been involved in the afterschool enrichment program, monthly recognition of the Keenan Student of the Month, support of the young men’s club, scholarship assistance, academic excellence luncheon, academic mentoring and assistance, and other support activities at the school.

Present at the recognition session was Richland One Superintendent Percy Mack, Richland One Board Member Aaron Bishop, Keenan High Principal Alvin Pressley, Director of Extended Day Programs Traci Cooper, USC Cheerleaders, USC mentor athletes, and a host of students from throughout the school district, staff and friends from the community.
