The SC Commission on Minority Affairs, with a grant from the SC Humanities Council and support from the SC African American Heritage Commission invite you to the opening event of the Southeast Regional Black Male Summit, "The People of Clarendon County"--A Play by Ossie Davis, & the Answer to Racism! This event is free to the public, Sunday, Feb. 19th at 5:30pm at Doubletree by Hilton, 2100 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210.

The theme of this year’s Southeast Regional Black Male Summit is Closing the Achievement Gap: Cutting the Pipeline to Prison.

Hear Alice Bernstein tell of "unearthing" Ossie Davis’s 1955 Civil Rights play, and why he wanted it presented in relation to Aesthetic Realism, the philosophy founded by Eli Siegel, which endeavors to explain the cause and answer to racism. Joining Ms. Bernstein are Allan Michael, Onilaja Waters and Dr. Arnold Perry.

The play will be performed by the distinguished Benedict College Theatre Ensemble directed by Charles David Brooks III, accompanied by the beloved Allen University Choir, directed by Peter Felder.

Reservations are strongly recommended for this free event.
