Hopkins, SC - The sixth annual STRONG THREADS FESTIVAL takes place Saturday, February 16, 2013 on the grounds of the historic Harriet Barber House in Hopkins, SC. STRONG THREADS, Inc. celebrates the heritage, history and culture of African-Americans with music, dancing, storytelling, visual and creative arts, and drama for audiences of all ages. The past five years have included appearances by authors Rose Rock and Joyce Hansen, storyteller Aunt Pearlie Sue, singer Regina Skeeters, the ABATSU African dance and drummers and many other speakers, entertainers, artists and crafts persons from South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina. Thousands have enjoyed this free fun-filled day sponsored over the years by the Richland County Council, SERCO (Southeast Rural Community Outreach) and the Network for STAAR.

Join us this year as we highlight children with the Youth Choir Showcase with children’s choirs from across the state. We will also explore genealogy and family history with Rev. John Middleton. Participants can also enjoy Ms. Vii’s Tea Ceremony, Hopkins Middle School Chorus, Audrey Smalls’ Black History Museum, African drumming and dancing lessons from ABATSU, Selena Cruz of TLC’s Toddlers and Tiara’s, Lil People of Greenville singing group, Abram Staten and his gospel group, Auntie Karen’s character Olivia the Octopus, All 4 Christ gospel group and a Harriet Barber monologue.
