On June 12, 2013, the Greater Columbia Community Relations Council (CRC) will honor Senator John Courson (R), President Pro Tempore of the South Carolina Senate and Senator Nikki Setzler (D), Senate Minority Leader  with its Hyman Rubin Distinguished Service Award.  CRC will honor community activist and neighborhood leader,   Durham E. Carter with its Community Service Award.

Established in 1964 by CRC, the event is held to provide an annual summary of the organization’s activities in the community, award scholarships to deserving students in the Midlands and honor community and civic leaders who have provided distinguished service to our community.

“CRC is honored to present its 2013 Awards to Senator John Courson, Senator, Nikki Setzler and Durham Carter,” said Henri Baskins CRC Executive Director, “we are honoring two members of our General Assembly who carry out their duties with respect the dignity toward all and a community leader who for decades have reverently championed the cause of fair and equal treatment.

The 49th Annual Luncheon and Awards will be held at 12 Noon at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.  Advance tickets are $35 each and may be purchased on the CRC website at
